Cortland Women Place Fourth at RPI Invitational

Amanda Grossman finished seventh in the 200-yard backstroke and swam the final leg on the fourth-place 400-yard medley relay
TROY, N.Y. – The Cortland women's swimming and diving team finished in fourth place out of six schools at the RPI Kumpf Invitational.

The Red Dragons finished with 359 points. Ithaca edged RPI for the team title, 578-577, with William Smith in third (376.5). Clarkson (164) and Skidmore (141.5) rounded out the field. Cortland also went 2-3 in dual-meet scoring at the invitational with wins over Clarkson and Skidmore.

Elizabeth Connolly (Lockport) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.92 and eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:40.75). Chelsey Simon (Oneida) was fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.05) and eighth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:45.35), while Angelica Ford (Elk Grove Village, IL) placed fifth in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.78) and 500-yard freestyle (5:38.81).

Ally Baraban (Melville/Half Hollow Hills East) posted a seventh-place time of 12:01.59 in the 1,000-yard freestyle and Amanda Grossman (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) was seventh in the 200-yard backstroke (2:22.18). Jackie Bors (Buffalo/North Tonawanda) finished seventh in 3-meter diving (179.50 points).

Also for the Red Dragons individually, Natalie Johnson (Canandaigua/Marcus Whitman) and Whitney Mietz (Rochester/Brighton) tied for seventh place in the 50-yard freestyle, each in 27.08 seconds, Emily McGurk (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) finished eighth in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:24.81) and 100-yard freestyle (58.82), and Brianne Munch (East Lyme, CT) was eighth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.92).

In relay action, Ford, Kelly Lambkin (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury), Simon and Grossman finished fourth in the 400-yard medley relay (4:20.44), while Connolly, Kalee Walden (Dryden), Johnson and Ford swam a fourth-place time of 3:52.58 in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Also in the 400 free relay, Baraban, Mietz, Munch and Grossman finished in seventh place (4:02.98).

Cortland will host Oswego in a dual meet Wednesday at 4 p.m.
