Cortland Women Win Eight Events to Defeat Oswego, 138.5-100.5, in Final Home Dual

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's swimming and diving team won eight events, including two diving victories by Miranda Fergus (Millbrook) and two swimming wins by Elizabeth Connolly (Lockport), as the Red Dragons defeated Oswego, 138.5-100.5, in their final home dual meet of the season.
 
Fergus recorded scores of 287.80 points on the 1-meter board and 302.95 points on the 3-meter board. Connolly won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:17.27) and 500-yard freestyle (5:27.59).
 
Angelica Ford (Elk Grove Village, IL) took top honors in the 400-yard individual medley (4:55.03) and Amanda Grossman (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) won the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.92). Kelly Lambkin (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) and Chloe Freideman (Whitney Point) tied for first place in the 100-yard breaststroke, each touching the wall in 1:14.68.
 
Cortland finished the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Connolly, Natalie Johnson (Canandaigua/Marcus Whitman), Chelsey Simon (Oneida) and Grossman clocked in at 1:42.37.
 
Jacqueline Lang (Middletown/Pine Bush) finished second behind Fergus in both diving events with 183.85 points on the 1-meter board and 184.35 points in the 3-meter event. Emily McGurk (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) was second in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.38) and the 100-yard freestyle (58.84), Simon finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.45), and Whitney Mietz (Rochester/Brighton) was runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle (26.75). In addition, the 200-yard medley relay squad of Ford, Lambkin, Simon and Grossman finished second in 1:58.00.
 
Cortland will compete in a dual meet at Div. II Le Moyne College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
