ITHACA, N.Y. – Six Red Dragons registered ECAC-qualifying efforts in four events as Cortland returned to action for the first time in more than a month at the men's indoor track and field Cornell Upstate Challenge. The meet featured primarily Division I schools from New York State along with Cortland and some other Division III schools.
Kyle Howe (Scipio Center/Southern Cayuga) finished fourth in the shot put with an ECAC distance of 14.48 meters (47' 6.25"), while
Aaron Granger (Delevan/Pioneer) was 15th out of 47 runners in the mile with an ECAC time of 4:24.81.
Dawan Jones (Buffalo/Tapestry Charter) placed sixth in the triple jump with his ECAC effort of 13.81 meters (45' 3.75").
Three Red Dragons earned ECAC qualifying status in the 60-meter hurdles.
Connor Christopherson (Morrisonville/Saranac) finished in ninth place in 8.44 seconds.
Storm Malone (Harrison/Highland) was 11th in 8.46 seconds and
Jack Flood (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) placed 13th in 8.57 seconds.
Five Cortland sprinters finished in the top 11 in the 200-meter dash.
Zach Meszler (Altamont/Herkimer) was fourth of 24 entrants in 23.20 seconds and Christopherson finished eighth (23.42).
Romain Saint Germain (Westbury) and
Brent DiVittorio (Brewster) each finished in 23.43 seconds, with Saint Germain officially ninth and DiVittorio 10th with times drawn out to thousandths of a second.
Alec Swider (Glenville/Scotia-Glenville) finished 11th in the event (23.47).
Jerel Williams (East Islip) was fourth in the 400 meters (52.43), while
John Nitterour (Big Flats/Horseheads), Williams, Granger and
Jon Feil (Guilderland) finished fourth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:37.07).
Mitch Couch (Oneonta) ended eighth in the shot put (13.80 meters - 45' 3.5") and ninth in the weight throw (13.64 meters - 44' 9").
Tyler Hochadel (Hamburg/Frontier) placed ninth in the shot put (12.92 meters - 42' 4.75"),
C.J. White (Middletown) was ninth in the triple jump (13.29 meters - 43' 7.25"), and
Andrew Espey (West Hempstead/Holy Trinity) ended ninth in the 800 meters (2:01.67).
Dante Binotto III (Canajoharie) finished 11th in the weight throw (13.43 meters - 44' 0.75") and 12th in the shot put (12.23 meters - 40' 1.5"). Flood was 12th in the long jump at 6.47 meters (21' 2.75"), and
Jake Davis (Castleton/Maple Hill) finished second of four in the heptathlon with 4,332 points.
Cortland returns to Cornell next Saturday, January 30, at 10 a.m. for the Kane Invitational.
