Perrella, Koelbel Hit ECAC Marks at Cornell Upstate Challenge

Brenda Perrella posted an ECAC-qualifying weight throw of 14.60 meters (47' 11")
ITHACA, N.Y. – Brenda Perrella (Hamburg/Frontier) qualified for the ECAC Div. III Championships in the weight throw and Kayla Koelbel (Bradford, PA/Kings Park (NY)) hit two ECAC marks during her fifth-place pentathlon finish as Cortland competed at the women's indoor track and field Cornell Upstate Challenge.

The event featured Division I schools from around New York State, along with Cortland and a handful of other Division III teams. There was only team scoring calculated for the Division I schools.

Perrella finished 14th in the weight throw with an ECAC distance of 14.60 meters (47' 11"). She also placed 12th in the shot put at 11.16 meters (36' 7.5").

Koelbel finished fifth in the pentathlon with a score of 3,189 points. Her performance included ECAC efforts of 9.27 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and 1.58 meters (5' 2.25") in the high jump.

Other highlights for Cortland included: Jane Martinez (East Lyme, CT) placing ninth in the pole vault with a height of 3.15 meters (10' 4"); Dana Kupiec (Salem) finishing 10th of 22 in the 400 meters (1:00.93); Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park)finishing 10th of 28 in the 800 meters (2:24.74); and Midge Moore (Massapequa) ending 12th of 33 in the 200-meter dash (26.66).

Cortland will be at Cornell again next Saturday, January 30, at 10 a.m. for the Kane Invitational.
