Kayla Blomback's winning time of 5:09.52 in the mile currently ranks her 17th nationally in Division III
ITHACA, N.Y. – Cortland's women reached ECAC qualifying marks in five events, including two victories, at the Cornell University Robert J. Kane Indoor Track and Field Invitational. There was no team scoring at the event.
Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) won the mile run in a field of 23 competitors in a time of 5:09.52 that currently ranks 17th nationally in Division III.
Dana Kupiec (Salem) finished first of 15 in the 400 meters in 59.97 seconds.
Kayla Koelbel (Bradford, PA/Kings Park (NY)) presently ranks 15th nationally in Div. III in the 60-meter hurdles with her preliminary time of 9.10 seconds. She finished fourth in the finals in 9.20 seconds.
Also hitting ECAC marks were
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) in the 500 meters and
Midge Moore (Massapequa) in the 60-meter dash. Balzano placed fourth of 16 in the 500 in 1:19.79, while Moore was fifth of 25 in the 60-meter dash in 7.96 seconds.
Numerous Red Dragons placed in the top half of their events.
Sara Billings (Gansevoort/South Glens Falls) and
Abbey Gray (Homer) finished first and second, respectively, out of five runners in the 5,000 meters. Billings was clocked at 20:19.68 and Gray at 20:22.46. The 4x400-meter relay team of Koelbel,
Kaylee Uhl (Waverly),
Melissa Emilio (Oneonta) and Balzano finished second out of 12 teams in 4:12.98.
Uhl was also ninth of 25 in the 800 meters (2:29.57). Koelbel placed 12th of 26 in the long jump (4.99 meters - 16' 4.5"), just ahead of
Nicole Hofmann (Farmingdale) in 13th place (4.95 meters - 16' 3").
Angelique Jean-Charles (Elmont/Valley Stream) was sixth of 17 in the 60-meter hurdle prelims in 9.62 seconds, but did not compete in the finals despite having a qualifying time.
Three Red Dragons earned top-seven spots in the 16-runner 3,000-meter field.
Megan Wagner (Niskayuna) was third (10:58.31), followed by
Allison Schumann (North Salem) in fourth (11:01.87) and
Jackie Boyce (Greenwich) finished seventh (11:11.50).
Yasmeen Griffin (Liverpool) finished fourth of 15 in the 400 meters (1:02.98) and
Jane Martinez (East Lyme, CT) was sixth of 16 in the pole vault (3.15 meters - 10' 4").

Kerri Culhane (Sayville) finished seventh in the mile (5:23.62),
Brenda Perrella (Hamburg/Frontier) was eight of 22 in the weight throw (14.13 meters - 46' 4.25"),
Diamond Jackson (Farmingville/Sachem East) was 11th of 22 in the shot put (10.18 meters - 33' 4.75"), and
Hannah Anthes (Liverpool) placed 12th of 30 in the 200-meter dash (27.61).
Cortland will compete at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational and Multi next Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 6-7.
