CORTLAND, N.Y. – Sophomores
Jess Gibaldi (Westbury/W.T. Clarke) and
Jessica Welsh (Hamilton) each tallied two goals and one assist to lead the Cortland field hockey team to a 7-0 victory versus Oswego Wednesday afternoon in SUNYAC action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the conference, while the Lakers fell to 7-2 and 2-1.
Senior
Gabby Stein (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) contributed one goal and two assists for Cortland. Junior
Meg Redmond (Accord/Rondout Valley) and freshman
Kelly Durso (East Islip) each scored a goal, and juniors
Anna Branch (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) and
Megan O'Brien (Holmes/Carmel) recorded one assist apiece.
Sophomore goalie
Kailynne Reinoehl (Lititz, PA/Warwick) made one save in 56:07 for the Red Dragons. Senior
Mairead Hourihan (Yorktown Heights/Lakeland) did not face a shot on goal over the final 13:53. Junior goalie Sarita Charap (Ocean City, NJ) registered 13 saves for the Lakers.
Cortland opened up a 4-0 lead after the first half. Welsh started the scoring with a penalty-stroke goal at 5:56. O'Brien set up Gibaldi's first goal of the game at 13:43 to make it a 2-0 score. Durso tallied her first career goal at 27:36 before Gibaldi's second goal of the game at 33:53 put Cortland ahead, 4-0.
Stein assisted on Welsh's second goal at 45:15, then swept in a shot from the left side at 50:53 to increase the lead to 6-0. Redmond finished the scoring with a blast from the right side at 57:52 on a penalty corner.
