Cortland Men 22nd at Rowan Inter-Regional Battle

Aaron Granger was Cortland's fourth finisher in the championship race
GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Cortland men's cross country team finished in 22nd place out of 43 schools at the Rowan University Inter-Regional Border Battle.

The Red Dragons posted a score of 640 points, seven better than Ohio Wesleyan. Geneseo won the team title with 71 points, followed by MIT with 127.

Senior Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) finished in 48th place out of 383 runners with a time of 24 minutes, 36.1 seconds over an 8,000-meter layout. Geneseo's Isaac Garcia-Cassani won the race in 23:19.9. Ryan was in 86th place after the first 2,000 meters, but improved to 55th after 5,000 meters and was 47th at the 4-mile mark.

Freshman Cable McCandless (Lindenhurst) finished in 123rd place in 25:22.0. Freshman Nolan Vest (Coram/Longwood) was 173rd (25:47.8), followed by junior Aaron Granger (Delevan/Pioneer) in 177th (25:49.2) and freshman Andrew Boyce (Cortland) in 183rd (25:51.9). Cortland's other competitor in the race, sophomore Andrew Espey (West Hempstead/Holy Trinity), placed 237th (26:26.6).

In the open race, graduate student Nate Ashton (Norwich) was Cortland's top finisher in 120th place with a time of 27:29.9 over 7,800 meters. Sophomore Chris Thorpe (Pine Bush) finished 130th in 27:39.6.

Cortland will return to action on Friday, October 21 at the Cornell University John Reif Memorial Run.
