CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally eighth-ranked Cortland men's soccer team defeated SUNY Canton, 7-0, Sunday afternoon, establishing a program record with its 12th shutout of the season. The Red Dragons won their 10th consecutive game and improved to 15-2 overall. The Kangaroos had a five-game winning streak snapped and fell to 6-10-1.

Tyler Kirschner (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East) tallied two goals and one assist to lead Cortland. Senior
Nick Tata (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) scored twice, senior
Daniel Friend (Deer Park) registered one goal and one assist, and senior
Jack Sumski (Lindenhurst) and freshman
Derek Beers (Franklin) each netted a goal. Freshman
Miguel Tunas (North Salem) recorded two assists, while sophomores
Michael Miner (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) and
Garrett Sweeney (Smithtown/Smithtown West) collected one assist apiece.
Junior goalie
Connor Young (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) made three saves for the Red Dragons in posting his eighth shutout of the season. Sophomore Mouhammed Thiam (New York/Washington Irving) started in goal for Canton and stopped four shots in 58:26. Junior Austin Lamay (Malone/Franklin) registered three saves over the final 31:34.
The Red Dragons return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 2, when they host either Buffalo St. or New Paltz in the semifinals of the SUNYAC Tournament.
