MT. MORRIS, N.Y. - The Cortland men's cross country team finished in fifth place out of 10 schools at the SUNYAC Championships, hosted by SUNY Geneseo at Letchworth State Park. Geneseo won the team title with 23 points, followed by Oneonta (62), Fredonia (94), Oswego (100) and Cortland (148).
Senior
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) was Cortland's top finisher, covering the 8,000-meter course in 25:50.9 to place 12th overall. He earned third team All-SUNYAC honors for his performance, the third time he has secured all-conference accolades. Geneseo junior Isaac Garcia-Cassan won the race in 24:54.1. A total of 114 runners competed.
Freshman
Cabel McCandless (Lindenhurst) was Cortland's second scorer, finishing 25th in 26:37.9. Freshman
Nolan Vest (Coram/Longwood) crossed the finish line in 37th place (27:05.8) as Cortland's third scorer. Rounding out the Red Dragon top five were sophomore
Grant Boyd (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) in 46th place (27:24.9) and junior
Aaron Granger (Delevan/Pioneer) close behind in 47th place (27:28.8).
Freshman
Andrew Boyce (Cortland) and senior
Nate Ashton (Norwich) completed Cortland's top seven, finishing 55th and 81st, respectively, with times of 27:42.0 and 29:09.9.
