CORTLAND, N.Y. -
Courtney Silberer (Centereach) and
Nadia Moore (Durham, NC/Durham School of the Arts) recorded 14 and 11 kills, respectively, as Cortland lost to visiting Ithaca in four sets in a non-league match.
Ithaca (14-4) won the first set, 25-6, after scoring the final 15 points of the set. Cortland (11-9), however, came back to win the second set, 25-22, after trailing 15-13. Ithaca rallied from 18-12 and 22-19 deficits to win the third set, 25-22, and the Bombers led most of the way in their 25-18 win in the fourth.
Silberer finished with 14 kills, a .167 attack percentage and two blocks, while Moore had 11 kills, a .189 attack percentage and two blocks.
Deja Smith (Suffern) led the team with four blocks, and
Alexandra Graff (Apex, NC) amassed a team-high 23 digs.
Samantha Czeczotka (Elwood/John H. Glenn), honored prior to the match as the Red Dragons' lone senior, finished with two aces and 11 digs.
Sarah Piacentini (Webster/Webster Schroeder) had 24 assists and 10 digs and
Valerie Fischer (Williston Park/Mineola) added 13 digs.
Joelle Goldstein led Ithaca with 16 kills and added three aces, while Katie Evans totaled 14 kills and a .522 attack percentage (two errors in 23 attempts). Kayla Gromen dished out 30 assists and had 16 digs, Marlee Wierda served four aces, and Tara Stilwell led the Bombers with 28 digs.
Cortland will resume SUNYAC play with three matches this weekend at Oswego. The Red Dragons will face the host Lakers Friday at 5 p.m. and will play Fredonia and Potsdam Saturday at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
