NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Cortland men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2016-17 season with dual-meet losses versus New York University at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan. NYU won the men's meet, 196-96, and the women's meet, 205-87.
For Cortland's men, senior
Lee Wade (Holtsville/Sachem East) earned a pair of second-place diving finishes. He scored 275.11 points on the 1-meter board and 296.55 points on the 3-meter board. Sophomore
Mark Benitez (Hillburn/Suffern) was third on the 1-meter board with 221.55 points.
Freshman
Tim Drake (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) and senior
Dylan Burns (Cornwall) earned third-place swimming finishes. Drake was third in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:56.96 and Burns third in the 100-yard backstroke in 56.33 seconds.
Cortland had one women's top-three finish during the meet. Freshman
Caroline Tighe (East Meadow) finished second in three-meter diving with a score of 241.95 points.
The Red Dragons will return to action at home on Saturday, November 5 when they host dual meets versus Ithaca College.
