CLINTON, N.Y. – With the help of three runners finishing in the top 15, the Cortland women's cross country team earned a runner-up finish out of 11 teams at the Hamilton Invitational on Saturday.
Senior
Allison Schumann (North Salem) placed third overall with a time of 19:07.9 over 5,000 meters. Junior
Megan Wagner (Niskayuna) finished 10th in 19:29.2, closely followed by junior
Jasmine Meerdink (Rome/Rome Free Academy) in 11th (19:30.2). Junior Kaylyn West of East Stroudsburg helped lead her team to the title by capturing first in 18:44.1.
East Stroudsburg scored 47 points as a team, followed by Cortland (66 points), Ithaca (81 points), Le Moyne (93 points) and Hamilton (100 points).
Freshman
Eliza Nichols (Smithtown/Smithtown West) and junior
Sara Billings (Gansevoort/South Glens Falls) rounded out the Red Dragon scorers. Nichols crossed the line in 20th place in 19:49.2, and Billings finished in 22nd place with a time of 19:58.9.
Completing Cortland's top seven were sophomore
Gwen Proper (Sylvan Beach/Camden) in 28th place (20:18.1) and junior
Melissa Emilio (Oneonta) in 66th place (21:38.4).
