Megan Wagner heads toward the finish line at the Atlantic Regional meet. Wagner earned all-region honors with a 31st-place finish.
GLASSBORO, N.J. – Cortland senior
Mary Baughman (Rush/Rush-Henrietta) and junior
Megan Wagner (Niskayuna) each earned all-region honors as the Red Dragons competed at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional women's cross country meet, hosted by Rowan University.
Baughman finished 15th out of 304 runners in a time of 21 minutes, 27.9 seconds over a 6,000-meter course. Wagner placed 31st in 21:59.6. The top 35 runners earn all-region honors. Amy Regan of Stevens Institute won the race in 20:05.1, more than 19 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Cortland finished 14th out of 43 schools in the final team standings with 349 points. Geneseo and Oneonta earned automatic bids to nationals with their top-two finishes - Geneseo first with 90 points and Oneonta second with 112 points. RPI and Ithaca each scored 121 points, with RPI third and Ithaca fourth based on the finish of their sixth-place runners. Stevens finished fifth with 160 points. The NCAA will select 16 at-large teams, over eight regions, to complete the 32-team field for next week's nationals.
Baughman has a chance to earn an individual berth to nationals, which go to the top seven finishers not on qualifying teams. For her to earn a spot, RPI, Ithaca and Stevens will all have to receive team at-large berths, which is a decent possibility.
UPDATE (Nov. 13): Baughman has been chosen to compete at the NCAA Div. III Championships as an individual qualifier. The race will be held on Saturday, November 19, in Louisville, Kentucky.
