Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Cortland Edged, 2-1, at #10 Oswego

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Jacquelin White scored two third-period goals, including the game winner with nine minutes, 32 seconds remaining, as nationally 10th-ranked Oswego edged Cortland, 2-1, in an ECAC West contest.

The Lakers improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in league play, while Cortland fell to 0-3 both overall and in the ECAC West. The teams meet again at Oswego Sunday at 3 p.m.

Cortland freshman goalie Rachael Farmer (Grand Island/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) made 42 saves and Oswego netminder Mariah Madrigal stopped 11 shots on goal.

After two scoreless periods, Cortland grabbed a 1-0 lead just 25 seconds into the third on freshman Carly Weigold's (Mahopac/Millbrook Mustangs) first goal of the season. The Lakers, however, responded just 32 seconds later when White scored off assists from Alexa Aramburu and Olivia Ellis.

White broke the tie with her sixth goal of the season. Farmer tried to cover the puck to her right after a long shot, but it squirted loose right in front of and uncovered net and White poked it in. Cortland eventually pulled Farmer for an extra attacker with 1:27 remaining but was only able to get one shot on goal the rest of the way.

The teams were whistled for only a combined three penalties in the game - two against Oswego and one against Cortland.
