Chapko and Vitucci Net Career Highs in Cortaca Classic Win vs. St. Lawrence

ITHACA, N.Y. - Cassidy Chapko (Valley Falls/Hoosic Valley) and Kristy Vitucci (Deer Park) scored career highs of 26 and 22 points, respectively, and shot a combined 10-of-12 from 3-point range as Cortland defeated St. Lawrence, 86-58, during Day 2 of the Cortaca Classic. The tournament was co-hosted by Cortland and Ithaca, with action moving to Ithaca Saturday after opening Friday in Cortland.

Chapko made 9-of-12 shots, including 6-of-7 from the 3-point arc, and added two free throws for her 26-point performance. Vitucci was also 9-of-12 overall from the floor, and hit 4-of-5 treys, and finished with 22 points and four rebounds.

Alyssa Crosby (Brier Hill/Hammond) chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds for the Red Dragons (1-1). Danielle Levine (Holbrook/Sachem North) also grabbed five boards, and Taylor Miller (Freeport) and Samantha Roberts (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) shared the team lead with five assists each. In addition, Becca Krenzer (Pavilion/Batavia-Notre Dame) scored seven points on 3-of-3 shooting and Alaina Lynch (Staten Island/Staten Island Tech) netted seven points on 3-of-4 shooting.

St. Lawrence (0-2) was paced by Meghan Hynes' 18 points and Cara Waterson's 10 points.

Cortland shot 53 percent from the field overall and 46 percent (11-of-24) from the arc. St. Lawrence made only 32 percent of its shots and just 17 percent (4-of-24) from long distance. The Saints did, however, made 20-of-24 free throws compared to Cortland's 7-of-11 foul shooting.

Cortland led 28-20 after the first quarter and 40-28 with four minutes left in the half. The Red Dragons then finished the half on an 11-2 run, including eight points by Vitucci, and took a 51-30 lead into the locker room. Vitucci scored 18 points and Chapko had 16 points in the opening 20 minutes.

The Red Dragons led by at least 19 points the entire third quarter and held a lead in the 23-30 point range during the fourth quarter.

Cortland will be off for 10 days before hosting Ithaca on Tuesday, November 29, at 7:30 p.m. in a non-league game.
