Lee Wade earned first-place points in 3-meter diving and second-place points on the 1-meter board
CLINTON, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team finished in second place out of six schools at the two-day Hamilton College Invitational. The Red Dragons finished with 735 points, more than 100 better than third-place Oneonta (603).
Hamilton won the team title with 1,033 points, followed by Cortland, Oneonta, Oswego (566), Buffalo State (502) and Potsdam (335).
Lee Wade (Holtsville/Sachem East) won 3-meter diving with a six-dive score of 268.65 points. He earned second-place points in 1-meter diving with his six-dive score of 241.60 points, but then went on to post the best 11-dive score of 427.25 points.
The 200-yard freestyle relay of
Bailey Eigbrett (Avon),
Brian Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point),
Tim Thatcher (Staten Island/St. Peter's Boys) and
Dylan Burns (Cornwall) won with a time of 1:30.37, while the 200-yard medley relay of Burns,
Noah Farmer (New Hartford), Eigbrett and Cremer placed second in 1:40.05.
Burns finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (54.73), third in the 50-yard freestyle (22.20) and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (49.79).
Tim Rokos (Duanesburg) posted a second-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley (4:30.30), a fourth-place showing in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.90), and a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.34).
Farmer earned third-place honors in the 200-yard IM (2:04.88), was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.79), and placed sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.59).
Nick Galeto (West Islip) finished third in the 100-yard backstroke (55.45) fifth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.83), and Cremer was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.31).
Other top-six individual finishers for the Red Dragons included:
Adam Kirchgessner (West Irondequoit) fifth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.02); Eigbrett sixth in the 50-yard freestyle (23.18);
Pat Calhoun (Oneonta) sixth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.78); and
Tim Drake (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:59.63).
Cortland recorded four top-five relay finishes. In addition to the win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Red Dragons placed third in the 400-yard medley relay (Burns, Farmer, Kirchgessner and Eigbrett in 3:44.79), fifth in the 800-yard freestyle relay (Thatcher, Cremer, Galeto and Kirchgessner in 7:36.64), and fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay (names not currently available).
Cortland will be idle until it travels to Hartwick College for a dual meet on Friday, January 6.
