ITHACA, N.Y. –
Dana Kupiec (Salem) broke her own school record in the 300-meter dash, and four Cortland athletes recorded ECAC-qualifying performances, as the Red Dragons women's indoor track and field team opened the season at the Cornell Greg Page Relays. The event was moved to Ithaca College's Athletics & Events Center due to resurfacing work at Cornell's home facility.
Kupiec finished sixth in the 300 meters (which is not an ECAC event) in 41.52 seconds, eclipsing her own school best of 41.79 seconds set last season.
Mary Baughman (Rush/Rush-Henrietta) finished seventh in the 5,000-meter run in 18:15.01, followed by
Allison Schumann (North Salem) in eighth (18:26.22) and
Megan Wagner (Niskayuna) in ninth (18:26.78) to all reach the ECAC qualifying standard. Cortland's other ECAC performance came from
Midge Moore (Massapequa), who finished 11th in the 60-meter dash in 8.04 seconds.
Moore was also one of three Red Dragons with top-20 showings in a field of 83 runners in the 300-meter dash. In addition to Kupiec's sixth-place finish,
Jennifer Jelic (Oneonta) was 13th (43.26) and Moore finished 17th (43.81).
Other Red Dragon highlights included
Eliza Nichols (Smithtown/Smithtown West) and
Jasmine Meerdink (Rome/Rome Free Academy) placing sixth (11:05.43) and seventh (11:08.36), respectively, in the 3,000-meter run, and
Harley Buczkowski (Holland Patent) finishing 14th in the weight throw (13.15 meters/43' 1.75"). In addition, the 4x400-meter relay team of Jelic,
Dana Messina (East Meadow),
