ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Three Red Dragons cleared an ECAC-qualifying height in the pole vault as Cortland sent a group of athletes to compete at the RIT Early Season Invitational.
Charlie Kollmer (Mount Sinai),
Matt Greenlaw (Warwick/Warwick Valley) and
Ivan Mieses (Middletown) each posted heights of 4.40 meters (14' 5.25"). Kollmer finished first in the 18-competitor field since he cleared the height on his first try. Greenlaw officially finished third overall (second among collegians) since he was successful on his second attempt, and had only one other miss, while Mieses was fourth overall (third collegiate) since he cleared the bar on his second attempt and had two other misses.
Kollmer and Mieses currently are tied for 11th nationally in Division III with their performances. Greenlaw is ranked ninth based on his performance (14' 9") last week at the Cornell Greg Page Relays.
Noah Serrette (Lawrence) finished second out of 13 runners in the 400-meter dash (51.93) and eighth of 30 in the 200-meter dash (23.91).
John Nitterour (Big Flats/Horseheads) was third in the 400 (52.47) and 11th in the 200 (24.03), while
Andrew Yarde (Valley Stream/Holy Trinity) placed fourth in the 400 (52.63) and ninth in the 200 (23.93).
Brandon Bogert (Lake Katrine/Kingston) finished first of seven in the 800-meter run (2:01.45) and fourth of nine in the mile (4:35.13).
Mehamed Abdurahim (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta) placed second in both events (2:02.71 in the 800; 4:32.78 in the mile), and
Andrew Boyce (Cortland) finished third in the mile (4:34.95).
Cortland will send competitors to the Lehigh University Fast Times Before Finals Meet on Friday-Saturday, December 9-10, to wrap up its first semester schedule.
