Romain Saint Germain led off Cortland's 4x400-meter relay team at Boston U. that posted an ECAC-qualifying time of 3:23.82
BOSTON, MASS. and ITHACA, N.Y. – Cortland's men registered four ECAC-qualifying performances at both the Boston University Valentine Invitational and the Cornell University Sunday Invitational, highlighted by
Mitch Couch's (Oneonta) school record in the weight throw, during two weekend road meets for the Red Dragons.
Couch won the weight throw at Cornell with a school-record distance of 17.29 meters (56' 8.75"). The previous school mark was 16.75 meters by Tyler Prendergast in 2014. Couch currently ranks 13th nationally in Division III in the event. Couch also hit an ECAC mark in the shot put with his fourth-place distance of 14.48 meters (47' 6.25").
Also at Cornell,
Storm Malone (Harrison/Highland) finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.52, 8.45 in prelims) and
Nick Vachon (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) was fifth in the high jump at 2.00 meters (6' 6.75"), both with ECAC-qualifying performances.
At Boston University, Cortland recorded three individual ECAC efforts and one in a relay.
Jerel Williams (East Islip) was 60th of 195 in the 400 meters (49.66),
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) placed 59th of 159 in the 3,000 meters (8:32.02), and
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) finished 36th of 94 in the 5,000 meters (14:58.77).
Williams also anchored the Red Dragons' 4x400-meter relay team at Boston University that finished 30th with an ECAC time of 3:23.82.
Romain Saint Germain (Westbury) led off the relay, followed by
Austen Johnson (Jamestown),
John Nitterour (Big Flats/Horseheads) and Williams.
Cortland will compete at the Cornell Deneault Memorial next Saturday, February 20.
