Jack Jakubek finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with an NCAA "B" cut time of 57.47 seconds
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior Jack Jakubek (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) posted an NCAA "B" cut in the 100-yard breaststroke and was one of three Cortland individuals to earn runner-up honors during the second full day of competition at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.

Cortland is still in fourth place in the team standings out of nine schools with one day remaining. Geneseo has a commanding lead with 703 points, but the next three schools - Fredonia (341), New Paltz (331) and Cortland (305) - are contesting for second place. Oneonta is fifth (244), followed by Oswego (183), Buffalo St. (166), Potsdam (146) and Brockport (143). The competition is being held at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Center.

Jakubek finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.47 seconds after posting a time of 57.49 seconds in the prelims. Both efforts met the NCAA "B" cut. He was also part of Cortland's runner-up 200-yard medley relay team that registered an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:32.07. Junior Dylan Burns (Cornwall) led off the event, followed by Jakubek, senior Mathew Hasbrouck (New Paltz) and senior Reeve Callen (Oswego).

Individually, Callen finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.32) and Burns placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (51.50). The Red Dragons also earned a second-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay as Hasbrouck, freshman Tim Thatcher (Staten Island/St. Peter's Boys), sophomore Brian Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) and Callen turned in a time of 7:00.69. Individual champs in each event are first team All-SUNYAC, while second and third-place finishers are second team all-conference.

Hasbrouck finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly in 51.92 seconds (51.73 in prelims). Thatcher won the "B" Final in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.01 for a ninth-place overall showing. Cremer finished 10th in the event (1:47.94) and sophomore Zachary Healy (Orchard Park) finished 15th (1:49.50). Also scoring for Cortland were freshman Adam Kirchgessner (Irondequoit/West Irondequoit) in the 100-yard butterfly (10th place, 53.06), freshman Paddy Thompson (Middletown/Pine Bush) in the 100-yard breaststroke (14th place, 1:01.77), and junior Lee Wade (Holtsville/Sachem East) and freshman Kaleil Balmir (Farmingdale) in 1-meter diving.
