Marcantonio 3K Win, Two National Top-20 Triples Jumps Among Highlights at Cornell

Mitch Ryan finished seventh of 33 in the mile with an ECAC time of 4:21.88
ITHACA, N.Y. – Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) won the 3,000-meter run, and Dawan Jones (Buffalo/Tapestry Charter) and C.J. White (Middletown) each posted national top-20 distances in the triple jump, as the nationally 17th-ranked Cortland men's indoor track and field team competed at the Cornell University Marc Deneault Memorial Invitational. The performances by Marcantonio, Jones and White were three of eight ECAC-qualifying efforts by the Red Dragons at the meet.

Marcantonio beat out 28 other runners in the 3,000 meters with his winning time of 8:41.99. Jones placed sixth of 21 in the triple jump with a distance of 14.36 meters (47' 1.5"), which ranks him eighth nationally in Division III, while White finished eighth at the meet at 14.08 meters (46' 2.5"), which presently puts him 20th on the national charts.

Mitch Couch (Oneonta) finished second of 19 in the weight throw with an ECAC distance of 16.15 meters (53' 0") and Nick Vachon (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) cleared 1.99 meters (6' 6.25"), also an ECAC qualifier, to finish fourth in the high jump. Charlie Kollmer (Mount Sinai) hit an ECAC mark in the pole vault with his fourth-place effort of 4.50 meters (14' 9").

Cortland's other ECAC qualifiers were Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) with a seventh-place finish out of 33 runners in the mile in 4:21.88, and Storm Malone (Harrison/Highland) in the 60-meter hurdles with an 11th-place showing in a field of 22 in 8.58 seconds.

Jerel Williams (East Islip) finished second of 16 in the 300-meter dash (35.69) and Jake Zedack (Mexico) was fifth of 29 in the 3,000 meters (8:59.30). Kyle Howe (Scipio Center/Southern Cayuga) finished fifth of 21 in the shot put (13.75 meters - 45' 1.5"), followed by Tyler Hochadel (Hamburg/Frontier) in sixth place (13.63 meters - 44' 8.75") and Dante Binotto III (Canajoharie) in ninth (11.66 meters - 38' 3.25"). Binotto and Hochadel were also in the top 10 in the weight throw - Binotto in sixth (13.69 meters - 44' 11") and Hochadel in ninth (13.48 meters - 44' 2.75").

Three Red Dragons earned top-10 showings in the 400 meters. John Nitterour (Big Flats/Horseheads) was seventh of 23 in 52.39 seconds. Austen Johnson (Jamestown) placed eighth (52.47) and Richard Taylor (Westbury) was ninth (52.76). In the 800 meters, Andrew Espey (West Hempstead/Holy Trinity) placed eighth of 29 in 2:00.09 and Aaron Granger (Delevan/Pioneer) was 10th in 2:00.66.

Also for Cortland, Brent DiVittorio (Brewster) finished eighth in the 300-meter dash (36.73), Jack Flood (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) was ninth of 30 in the long jump (6.55 meters - 21' 6"), and Romain Saint Germain (Westbury) concluded 10th of 34 in the 60-meter dash (7.19).

Cortland will compete at the SUNYAC Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday, February 26-27, at Brockport.
