Angelica Ford won the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard IM races, both with identical times of 2:21.78
FREDONIA, N.Y. –
Elizabeth Connolly (Lockport),
Angelica Ford (Elk Grove Village, IL/Elk Grove Village) and
Chelsey Simon (Oneida) were each double-winners as Cortland defeated host Fredonia, 169-126, in the Red Dragons' final dual meet of the season.
Connolly won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:20.74) and 500-yard freestyle (5:24.19), in addition to finishing second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.41). Ford was the top swimmer in the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard individual medley, both with identical times of 2:21.78, and she was second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.75).
Simon won the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.48) and 200-yard butterfly (2:19.42). Other individuals on the victory stand for the Red Dragons were
Amanda Grossman (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.53) and
Miranda Fergus (Millbrook) in 1-meter diving (287.80 points). Fergus was also second in 3-meter diving (268.35 points).
The tandem of Connolly,
Whitney Mietz (Rochester/Brighton), Simon and Grossman won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:44.69). Grossman,
Chloe Freideman (Whitney Point),
Emily McGurk (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) and
Kalee Walden (Dryden) finished second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:58.78), missing the top spot by less than half a second.
McGurk finished second in both the 200-yard butterfly (2:25.41) and 100-yard freestyle (58.77). Mietz was second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.55), while
Natalie Johnson (Canandaigua/Marcus Whitman) earned runner-up honors in the 200-yard backstroke (2:24.06).
Cortland will compete at the SUNYAC Championships Wednesday-Saturday, February 17-20 at Erie Community College's Flickinger Center in Buffalo.
