ITHACA, N.Y. –
Jack Flood (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) broke his own school record in the heptathlon to highlight Cortland's performances at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational and Multi Saturday and Sunday.
Flood finished first out of 19 heptathletes with a score of 5,054 points. He broke his old mark of 4,923 points set this past December. On the way to the record he registered ECAC qualifying performances in the 60-meter hurdles (8.56) for 846 points, the high jump at 2.00 meters (6' 6.75") for 803 points, and the long jump at 6.85 meters (22' 5.75") for 778 points.
Connor Christopherson (Morrisonville/Saranac) also eclipsed the previous school mark with his second-place score of 4,974 points. He scored 823 points in the 60-meter hurdles (8.66) and 759 points in the 1,000-meter run (2:50.60).
Jake Davis (Castleton/Maple Hill) and
Brent DiVittorio (Brewster) placed seventh (4,545 points) and eighth (4,485 points), respectively, in the heptathlon.
All four Cortland heptathletes currently rank in the top 15 nationally in Div. III with their performances. Flood and Christopherson are first and second, respectively, with Davis 11th and DiVittorio 15th.
Flood finished with three of Cortland's 10 ECAC qualifying efforts at the two-day meet.
Storm Malone (Harrison/Highland) and the 4x200-meter relay team each won events. Malone finished first out of 33 competitors in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.43 seconds, while the 4x200-meter relay squad of
Jerel Williams (East Islip),
Romain Saint Germain (Westbury),
Zach Meszler (Altamont/Herkimer) and
John Nitterour (Big Flats/Horseheads) beat nine other entries with a time of 1:31.61.
Dawan Jones (Buffalo/Tapestry Charter) finished second in a field of 27 in the triple jump with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 14.19 meters (46' 6.75") that currently ranks 13th nationally in Div. III. Also in the triple jump,
C.J. White (Middletown) finished third with an ECAC distance of 13.79 meters (45' 3").
Mitch Couch (Oneonta) hit an ECAC mark in the weight throw with his distance of 15.91 meters (52' 2.5"). He finished in second place out of 41 competitors.
Aaron Granger (Delevan/Pioneer) met ECAC standards in the mile with his third-place finish, out of 57, in 4:20.95, and
Nick Vachon (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) was fifth of 28 in the high jump with an ECAC height of 1.93 meters (6' 4").
Couch finished fifth of 42 in the shot put at 14.21 meters (46' 7.5"), with
Tyler Hochadel (Hamburg/Frontier) placing 10th (12.93 meters – 42' 5.25"). Three Red Dragons earned top-10 finishes in a field of 89 in the 200-meter dash. Meszler was third in 22.89 seconds, Saint Germain placed fifth in 23.17 seconds, and Williams was ninth in 23.43 seconds.
Charlie Kollmer (Mount Sinai) finished fourth and
Corey Fitchett (East Islip) tied for sixth out of 32 in the pole vault. Both of them cleared 4.25 meters (13' 11.25"), with misses determining their placements.
Jon Feil (Guilderland) was fourth of 55 in the 800 meters (1:59.04).
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) and
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) finished seventh (4:27.31) and eighth (4:28.98), respectively, in the mile run.
Dante Binotto III (Canajoharie) finished ninth in the weight throw (13.41 meters – 44' 0"), and the 4x400-meter relay team of
Richard Taylor (Westbury),
Andrew Yarde (Valley Stream/Holy Trinity), Feil and
Andre Brown (Kingston, Jamaica/Oberlin) placed ninth in 3:33.86.
Cortland will send competitors to the Boston University Valentine Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 12-13, and to the Cornell Sunday Invitational on Feb. 14.
