Jack Flood and Nick Vachon Earn Men's Indoor Track and Field All-America Honors

Nick Vachon competes in the high jump at the NCAA Championships. He finished seventh to earn All-America honors.
GRINNELL, IOWA – Junior Jack Flood (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) and junior Nick Vachon (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) each earned All-America honors as Cortland wrapped up competition at the NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships at Grinnell College. Flood finished third in the heptathlon and Vachon placed seventh in the high jump.

Cortland tied for 28th place out of 102 schools that competed at the championship with eight points. Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the title with 53 points and Wisconsin-Whitewater was second with 49.

Flood earned All-America recognition, which goes to the top eight finishers in each event, with his score of 4,937 points in the heptathlon. Freshman Brent DiVittorio (Brewster) was 13th with 4,563 points and junior Connor Christopherson (Morrisonville/Saranac) was 14th with 3,534 points. Ethen Schoen of Wisconsin-Stout won the title with 5,031 points and Kevin Wagner of St. Scholastica was second with 4,995 points.

Flood opened Day 2 with a third-place time of 8.58 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles for 841 points. He scored 496 points with his pole vault of 3.55 meters (11' 7.75") and registered the best time in the 1,000 meters in 2:47.16 for 796 points. DiVittorio was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.54) for 851 points. He scored 418 points with his pole vault of 3.25 meters (10' 8") and 690 points in the 1,000 meters (2:57.37). Christopherson opened strong with the best time in the 60-meter hurdles (8.42) for 851 points. However, he did not clear a height in the pole vault. In the 1,000 meters, Christopherson started the race and helped Flood with his pace before stepping aside about 600 meters in.

Vachon was part of a three-way tie for fifth in the high jump after clearing 2.04 meters (6' 8.25"), but due to number of misses at that height he finished seventh officially. Robert Starnes of Wisconsin-Whitewater won the event at 2.14 meters (7' 0.25").

Also competing Saturday for the Red Dragons was sophomore Dawan Jones (Buffalo/Tapestry Charter), who finished 13th in the triple jump. He finished with a distance of 13.72 meters (45' 0.25"). Buffalo State's Benjamin Ezike won the national title at 15.07 meters (49' 5.5").
