GREENSBORO, N.C. – SUNY Cortland senior
Miranda Fergus (Millbrook) earned honorable mention All-America honors with a 16th-place finish in 1-meter diving at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
The four-day championship meet is being conducted at the Greensboro Aquatic Center and is hosted by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Fergus will return to action on Saturday, the final day of the meet, to compete in 3-meter diving.
Fergus was in 15th place through the 11-dive preliminaries with a score of 394.90 points. The top eight finishers after prelims advanced to the finals, while places 9-16 in the 24-diver field earned a spot in the consolation finals.
In the consolation finals, divers repeat the final six dives from prelims and replace those scores. Fergus slipped to a final score of 383.00 points and 16th place.
The first through eighth finishers in the event earn All-America honors, with ninth through 16th place receiving honorable mention All-America recognition. Fergus is now an honorable mention All-American for the second time – she placed 13th on the 1-meter board as a sophomore in 2014.
