#1 Red Dragons Drop Golden Flyers, 21-12, in Women's Lacrosse

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - Ten different players scored goals as the nationally top-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team ran its record to 6-0 with a 21-12 non-conference win at Nazareth College Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Flyers fell to 4-2 with the setback.

Junior Kristen Ohberg (Brewster) and freshman Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) led Cortland with four goals and one assist apiece. Senior Tara Monaghan (Stony Point/North Rockland) and sophomore Hannah Elmer (Syracuse/West Genesee) each tallied six points with Monaghan recording three goals and three assists and Elmer chipping in with two goals and four assists.

Senior Nicole Bello (Camillus/West Genesee) totaled two goals and two assists for Cortland, senior Ashley Gentile (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) scored twice, senior Elise Bennett (Webster/Webster Thomas) and junior Kaitlin Antelmi (Bridgeport/Chittenango) each tallied one goal and one assist and junior Makenzie Annable (Navarino/Onondaga) and sophomore Katie Wolfe (East Amherst/Williamsville North) scored one goal apiece.

Junior goalie Jaclyn Beshlian (Wantagh) made eight saves for the Red Dragons. Senior Colleen Wright (Huntington Station/Huntington) collected three ground balls, Gentile won six draw controls and Elmer caused three turnovers.

Haley DeVona paced the Nazareth offense with three goals. Kate Rothrock registered two goals and one assist. Jamie Martin, Carly Gates and Suzie Gray each netted a pair of goals, Nicole DeVona had one goal and one assist and Gabbie Charles contributed an assist.

Mackenzie Corbett started in goal but did not make a save in 20:28. Brianna Rizzari took over, stopping five shots in 39:32. Kyra Kempney collected three ground balls, Haley DeVona secured four draws and Gates and Kayla McKay each registered two caused turnovers.

Cortland built a 14-6 lead at the half, outscoring the Golden Flyers 7-1 over the final 12:05 to pull away from a 7-5 advantage. Nazareth cut the lead to 15-10 at the 17:53 mark of the second half, but the Red Dragons responded with three straight goals for an 18-10 lead with 8:35 remaining. The teams traded the next four goals and Bennett completed the scoring with 44 seconds remaining for the 21-12 final.
