WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Junior
Mary Baughman (Rush/Rush-Henrietta) and senior
Jane Martinez (East Lyme, CT) each won events to highlight Cortland's performances as the Red Dragons started their outdoor track and field season at the predominantly Division I Monmouth University Season Opener.
Baughman took top honors in the 10,000 meters in 39:17.62, Cortland's lone ECAC qualifying effort at the meet. Sophomore
Allison Schumann (North Salem) finished third in the race in 40:09.45, with sophomore
Sara Billings (Gansevoort/South Glens Falls) in fifth (41:07.12) and junior
Danielle Milo (West Islip) in seventh (42:13.47).
Martinez won the pole vault with a height of 3.05 meters (10' 0"). Junior
Alex Seymour (Dryden) placed second at 2.89 meters (9' 5.75").
Senior
Jackie Boyce (Greenwich) and junior
Mandy Sacca (Latham/Shaker) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Boyce was clocked at 12:19.65 and Sacca in 12:30.57. In the 400-meter hurdles, junior
Dana Kupiec (Salem) finished in eighth place in 1:07.55, followed by junior
Jennifer Jelic (Oneonta) in ninth place in 1:08.75.
Also earning a top-10 finish for the Red Dragons was graduate student
Hannah Anthes (Liverpool), who placed 10th out of 38 entrants in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.66.
Cortland returns to action on Friday and Saturday, April 1-2, at the Ramapo College Roadrunner Invitational in Mahwah, N.J.
