STATEN ISLAND – The Cortland men's indoor track and field team finished in 10th place of 51 schools that scored points at the 2016 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Championships. The two-day event was held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
Cortland scored 23 points at the meet. Rowan won the team title with 84 points, followed by Bowdoin (74) and Penn State Behrend (42.5).
Cortland earned All-ECAC honors in five individual events and one relay with top-eight finishes.
Mitch Couch (Oneonta)highlighted those efforts by breaking his own school record in the weight throw with a fourth-place distance of 17.58 meters (57' 8.25"). He was also seventh in the shot put at 15.49 meters (50' 10").
The 4x200-meter relay team of
Jerel Williams (East Islip),
Romain Saint Germain (Westbury),
Zach Meszler (Altamont/Herkimer) and
Alec Swider (Glenville/Scotia-Glenville) posted the top Red Dragon finish with a third-place time of 1:29.93. Williams also recorded an individual All-ECAC effort with a sixth-place time of 49.64 seconds in the 400-meter dash.
Micheal Outing (Farmingdale) was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.32 seconds, while
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) placed sixth in the 3,000 meters in 8:36.07.

Cortland awaits the announcement of participants for next weekend's NCAA Div. III Championships, which will be held at Grinnell College in Iowa. The final participant list will be posted on NCAA.com Monday by 9 a.m. The top 15 men in each individual event and the top 12 in each relay (4x400 and DMR) qualify for nationals. As of Saturday night, Cortland athletes ranking in national qualifying spots are:
