STATEN ISLAND – The Cortland women's indoor track and field team finished in 25th place of 50 schools that scored points at the 2016 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Championships. The two-day event was held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
The Red Dragons finished with 12.4 team points. Ithaca won the team title with 77 points, followed by Wellesley (49) and Misericordia (47).
Four Cortland individual entries and one relay team earned All-ECAC honors with top-eight finishes at the meet.
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) finished third in the 800 meters (2:15.74), and she anchored the fifth-place Distance Medley Relay (12:21.64) that also featured
Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park),
Dana Kupiec (Salem) and
Melissa Emilio (Oneonta).
Mary Baughman (Rush/Rush-Henrietta) finished seventh in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:17.02.
Emily Taylor (Huntington/John H. Glenn) and
Jane Martinez (East Lyme, CT) were two of five pole vaulters who tied for eighth place with heights of 3.31 meters (10' 10.25").

Cortland awaits the announcement of participants for next weekend's NCAA Div. III Championships, which will be held at Grinnell College in Iowa. The final participant list will be posted on NCAA.com Monday by 9 a.m. The top 17 women in each individual event and the top 12 in each relay (4x400 and DMR) qualify for nationals. As of Saturday night, Koelbel is Cortland's lone athlete ranking in a national qualifying spot with her 11th-place pentathlon score of 3,343 points.
