Flood Rides the Wave to New School Decathlon Record at Kutztown Multi

Jack Flood's winning score of 6,618 points broke the previous school record that was set in 1980
KUTZTOWN, PA. – Cortland junior Jack Flood (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) broke a 36-year-old school record in the decathlon to finish in first place out of 28 competitors at the Kutztown University Mondshein Multi event.

Flood's winning score of 6,618 points bested the previous school mark of 6,590 points set by Steven Armstrong in 1980. Junior Connor Christopherson (Morrisonville/Saranac) finished in third place with 6.424 points. Flood's score is currently the best nationally in Division III this spring, while Christopherson is presently ranked third.

Two of Flood's 10 event performances were ECAC Div. III Championship qualifiers. He scored 840 points with a high jump of 2.04 meters (6' 8.25") on Thursday and scored 831 points with a 110-meter hurdles time of 15.15 seconds on Friday. His high jump is ranked fifth nationally in Division III.

Flood also scored 709 points in the 100-meter dash (11.71), 692 points in the 1,500 meters (4:38.08), and 665 points in the 400 meters (53.40). In all, his efforts netted more than 600 points in eight of 10 events.

Christopherson also registered an ECAC-qualifying time in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.23 seconds for a score of 822 points. He totaled 789 points in the 400 meters (50.55), 776 points in the 100-meter dash (11.39) and 681 points in the 1,500 meters (4:39.90). He hit the 600-point plateau in six events.
