Cortland Women Finish Second at Ramapo Roadrunner Invitational

Jane Martinez finished second in the pole vault by clearing 3.30 meters (10' 10")
MAHWAH, N.J. - The Cortland women's outdoor track and field team finished in second place out of 30 teams that scored points at the Ramapo College Roadrunner Invitational. The Red Dragons finished with 116 points. Monroe College of the Bronx won the team crown with 170 points, followed by Cortland, Ramapo (88.5), St. Thomas Aquinas (41) and Adelphi (37) in the top five.

Diamond Jackson (Farmingville/Sachem East) recorded three top-eight scoring finishes, led by a victory in the discus at 37.31 meters (122' 5"). She was also second in the shot put at 11.15 meters (36' 7") and sixth in the hammer throw at 37.87 meters (124' 3").

Allison Schumann (North Salem) led a sweep of the top three spots in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She won the race in 11:59.93, followed by Sara Billings (Gansevoort/South Glens Falls) in second (12:00.98) and Jackie Boyce (Greenwich) in third (12:22.95).

Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) finished second in the 1,500 meters (4:51.70) and sixth in the 800 meters (2:24.44), while Jane Martinez (East Lyme, CT) was the pole vault runner-up at 3.30 meters (10' 10").

The 4x400-meter relay team of Hannah Anthes (Liverpool), Jennifer Jelic (Oneonta), Yasmeen Griffin (Liverpool) and Dana Kupiec (Salem) finished second in 4:11.08. The Red Dragons' also had a fourth-place 4x400 relay finish with Kayla Koelbel (Bradford, PA/Kings Park (NY)), Nicole Hofmann (Farmingdale), Kerri Culhane (Sayville) and Madison Herbert (Kings Park) being clocked at 4:13.26, although schools can only score team points once in each relay.

Koelbel also had the third-fastest time in the 100-meter hurdle prelims with an ECAC-qualifying time of 15.67 seconds, but did not finish in the finals.

Kupiec finished third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.33), Megan Wagner (Niskayuna) was third in the 5,000 meters (18:28.32), and Shannon Hanmer (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) placed third in the shot put (10.78 meters - 35' 4.5"). Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) finished fourth in the 5,000 meters (18:36.26) and Jelic was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.15).

The Red Dragons picked up fifth-place showings from Midge Moore (Massapequa) in the 200-meter dash (26.48) and Jennifer De Gaetano (Smithtown/Smithtown West) in the discus (31.73 meters - 104' 1"), with De Gaetano also eighth in the shot put (10.05 meters - 32' 11.75").

Culhane recorded a sixth-place time of 5:05.51 in the 1,500 meters and Hofmann was sixth in the high jump by clearing 1.48 meters (4' 10.25"). Gwen Proper (Sylvan Beach/Camden) finished eighth in the 1,500 meters (5:09.55).

Cortland will send competitors to the Princeton University Sam Howell Invitational next Friday and to the Cornell Invitational next Saturday.
