PHILADELPHIA, PA. –
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) and
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) each finished in the top seven in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase and
Mary Baughman (Rush/Rush-Henrietta) placed 13th in the women's 10,000 meters to represent Cortland at The Penn Relays.
The historic meet is held at Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania over five days, but Cortland only attended for Thursday night's races.
Ryan and Iacovelli were the top two Division III finishers in a field of 35 runners, including 26 Division I athletes, in the steeplechase. Ryan placed fourth in 9:01.13 and Iacovelli was seventh in 9:05.45. Indiana's Joshua Roche won the race in 8:52.77.
Ryan improved on his Division III national top ranking with his effort. Iacovelli moved from sixth to fifth in the latest national rankings.
Baughman placed 13th of 22 runners, including 13 Division I entries, with her 10,000-meter time of 36:23.43. Sarah Collins of Providence finished first in 34:03.07. Baughman's time presently ranks 14th nationally in Division III.
Cortland will compete at the Cornell Big Red Invitational on Sunday, May 1.
