Cortland Women Compete at Cornell in Final SUNYAC Tune-up

Kayla Koelbel finished third in the 100-meter hurdles
ITHACA, N.Y. - Three athletes met ECAC qualifying standards as the Cortland women's outdoor track and field team competed at the Cornell Big Red Invitational Sunday afternoon. The Red Dragons will return to action at the SUNYAC Championships May 5-6 at SUNY Oneonta.

Midge Moore (Massapequa) won the 200-meter dash in a field of 21 competitors with an ECAC time of 25.79 seconds. Kayla Koelbel (Bradford, PA/Kings Park (NY)) placed third in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.96 seconds, and Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) was fourth of 25 in the 800 meters in 2:16.07, both ECAC qualifiers.

Brenda Perrella (Hamburg/Frontier) finished third in the shot put at 11.17 meters (36' 7.75") and eighth in the discus at 29.71 meters (97' 6"). Nicole Hofmann (Farmingdale) was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.03) and Gabriella Czerw (Holbrook/Sachem North) placed sixth in the high jump (1.50 meters - 4' 11").

Some of Cortland's other notable performances included: Dana Messina (East Meadow) ninth of 21 in the 200-meter dash (27.02); Melissa Emilio (Oneonta) 10th of 25 in the 800 meters (2:22.57); Brianna Callahan (Conklin/Susquehanna Valley) 10th in the triple jump (10.20 meters - 33' 5.75"); and Shannon Hanmer (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) ninth (29.17 meters - 95' 8") and Jennifer De Gaetano (Smithtown/Smithtown West) 10th (27.90 meters - 91' 6") in the discus.
