SWARTHMORE, PA. – Cortland sent a handful of men's and women's competitors to the Swarthmore College Final Qualifier Track and Field meet Monday afternoon.
On the men's side, Cortland posted seven ECAC-qualifying performances.
Mitch Couch (Oneonta) won the discus at 48.48 meters (159' 1") and
Nick Vachon (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) was second in the high jump at 2.03 meters (6' 8").
Jack Flood (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) and
Storm Malone (Harrison/Highland) weathered out fourth and sixth-place finishes, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles. Flood finished in 15.06 seconds and Malone was timed at 15.36 seconds, both ECAC qualifiers.
Charlie Kollmer (Mount Sinai) placed seventh in the pole vault with an ECAC height of 4.65 meters (15' 3"), while
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) and
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) both earned ECAC times in the 1,500 meters. Iacovelli was 42nd of 102 runners in 3:55.19 and Ryan finished 52nd in 3:58.10.
Cortland's women posted four ECAC efforts at Swarthmore.
Dana Kupiec (Salem) finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.74) and
Midge Moore (Massapequa) was fourth in the 200-meter dash (25.95).
Jane Martinez (East Lyme, CT) cleared 3.46 meters (11' 4.25") to place fifth in the pole vault, while
Kailyn Balzano (East Greenbush/Columbia) was 10th of 44 in the 800 meters (2:13.16).
Cortland will compete at the ECAC Div. III Championships Wednesday and Thursday, May 18-19, at Westfield State University in Massachusetts. The meet is the final opportunity to qualify for nationals, or improve upon current national qualifying efforts. The NCAA Div. III Championships will be held May 26-28 at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
