CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior
Ashley Gentile (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) scored a game-high eight points on seven goals and one assist to help lead the nationally top-ranked and top-seeded Cortland women's lacrosse team to a 19-10 victory versus fourth-seeded Oswego Friday afternoon in the SUNYAC Semifinals at the Stadium Complex.
The Red Dragons improved to 17-0 and advanced to the championship game Saturday at noon versus the winner of Brockport versus Geneseo. The Lakers dropped to 12-4.

Tara Monaghan (Stony Point/North Rockland) scored five goals for Cortland and junior
Kristen Ohberg (Brewster) recorded seven points on three goals and four assists. Senior
Nicole Bello (Camillus/West Genesee) netted a goal and tallied and assist and classmate
Elizabeth LaComb (Syracuse/West Genesee), junior
Nicolette Tortorici (Deer Park) and freshman
Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) added one goal each. Junior
Makenzie Annable (Navarino/Onondaga) tallied three assists and sophomore
Hannah Elmer (Syracuse/West Genesee) added one helper.
Junior goalie
Jaclyn Beshlian (Wantagh) made 11 saves and allowed 10 goals for the Red Dragons. Gentile won 12 draws and Ohberg added five ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Senior Emily Lange (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga) and sophomore Gemma O'Kane (Memphis/Bishop Ludden) led Oswego with three goals each. Senior Erannan Shattuck (Syracuse/Bishop Grimes) recorded a goal and two assists and classmate Lindsey Eggers (Ridge/Longwood), junior Kendall Appelbaum (Buffalo/Nichols School) and third-year Kelsey Henderson (Cazenovia) scored once each. Freshman Teresa Shattuck (Syracuse/Bishop Grimes) tallied four assists.
Sophomore goalie Angela Ponto (Syracuse/West Genesee) made 19 saves and allowed 19 goals for the Lakers. Appelbaum won three draw controls and freshman Zeina Akl (Jamesville/LaFayette) scooped up three ground balls. Ponto and senior Esther Gabriel (Lancaster) caused two turnovers each.
Oswego jumped out to an early 3-2 lead. Eggers, Lange and Appelbaum tallied goals for the Lakers and Ohberg scored twice for Cortland. The Red Dragons answered with a 10-2 scoring run to close out the half. Gentile scored four times, Monaghan added two goals and Bello, LaComb, Ohberg and Stone scored for Cortland. Lange and O'Kane recorded the Oswego goals.
The teams traded goal early in the second half. O'Kane scored for the Lakers and Monaghan answered right back for Cortland. Lange brought Oswego within six once again, but Monaghan responded with another goal for Cortland. The Lakers then went on a 3-1 run of their own, Henderson, E. Shattuck and O'Kane tallied goals and Gentile scored for the Red Dragons. Cortland closed the game with four unanswered goals, two from Gentile and one each from Tortorici and Monaghan.
