Ryan Tops Red Dragon Runners at Hamilton Short Course Men's Race

Mitch Ryan covered the 5,000-meter course in 15:58 for a sixth-place finish
CLINTON, N.Y. – Senior Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) finished in sixth place out of 69 runners as the Cortland men's cross country team opened its season at the Hamilton College Short Course Invitational.

Ryan covered the 5,000-meter layout at the Hamilton College Golf Course in 15:58. Ithaca's Sean Phillips won the race in 15:31. Freshman Cabel McCandless (Lindenhurst) placed 12th in 16:12 and junior Aaron Granger (Delevan/Pioneer) was 28th in 16:39.

Rounding out the Red Dragons' top five were freshman Nolan Vest (Coram/Longwood) in 31st place (16:45) and sophomore Chris Thorpe (Pine Bush) in 43rd place (17:15). Freshman Ryan Konotopskyj (East Amherst/Williamsville North) crossed the line just behind Thorpe in 44th place (17:16).

Cortland finished fifth in the final team standings with 102 points. Oneonta was the team champion with 25 points.

Cortland will compete at the University of Rochester's Yellowjacket Invitational on Saturday, September 17.
