CORTLAND, N.Y. – Four different players scored a goal as the Cortland men's soccer team defeated Sage Colleges, 4-0, in non-conference action Saturday night at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 4-0 with the victory, while the Gators dropped to 1-2-1.

Daniel Friend (Deer Park) and
Nick Tata (Rochester/Aquinas Institute), junior
Drew DeJohn (Spencerport) and freshman
Cam LaVallee (Schenectady/Schalmont) each netted a goal for Cortland. Seniors
Tyler Kirschner (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East) and
Joe Brandofino (East Northport/Commack) and sophomores
Chris Hettler (Hauppauge/Smithtown West) and
Matt Aprile (Smithtown/Smithtown West) collected one assist apiece. Brandofino also stopped one shot in earning his third shutout of the season in goal.
Junior goalie Caelan Kohut (Ancram/Hudson) made four saves for Sage Colleges, and sophomore James Fitzpatrick (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) denied a goal with a "team" save.
DeJohn opened the scoring in the 16th minute, taking a pass from Kirschner and running onto a 20-yard low shot that found the inside of the left post. Friend put Cortland ahead 2-0 going into the half when he scored on a header off a corner kick serve by Hettler.
LaVallee connected for his first career goal in the second half. Brandofino unloaded a booming punt that bounded into Sage's box. LaVallee ran onto the ball and chested a shot into an open goal in the 72nd minute. Tata finished the scoring with his fourth goal in four games. He took a pass from Aprile on the right side of the box and set up a left-footed shot that dipped into the right side of the goal with 4:05 remaining.
