ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior
Mitch Ryan (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) finished seventh overall, and sixth among collegiate finishers, to lead Cortland to a sixth-place team finish at the Roberts Wesleyan Harry F. Anderson Men's Cross Country Invitational.
Cortland finished with 147 points. Oswego won the team title with 84 points, followed by Rochester (86), Roberts Wesleyan (92), Franklin Pierce (104), Fredonia (120) and Cortland to head the 22-team field.
Ryan covered the 8,000-meter course in 25 minutes, 53.6 seconds and was one of four Red Dragons in the top 45 of the 213-runner competition. Kevin Roginson of Daemen won the race in 25:32.6. Freshman
Cabel McCandless (Lindenhurst) was 26th in 26:38.9, freshman
Nolan Vest (Coram/Longwood) placed 38th in 27:06.2, and junior
Aaron Granger (Delevan/Pioneer) was 43rd in 27:17.9.
Sophomore
Grant Boyd (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) rounded out the Red Dragons' top five in 53rd place (27:40.5), with freshman
Andrew Boyce (Cortland) in 62nd place (28:02.9) and sophomore
Andrew Espey (West Hempstead/Holy Trinity) in 69th place (28:11.3) to complete Cortland's top seven. The Red Dragons had two other runners cross the finish line in the top 75. Freshman
Ryan Konotopskyj (East Amherst/Williamsville North) ended 73rd (28:14.6) and sophomore
Chris Thorpe (Pine Bush) was 75th (28:15.3).
Cortland returns to action next Saturday, October 1, at the Lehigh University Paul Short Run.
