Red Dragons Edge Hawks, 1-0, in Men's Soccer

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Junior goalie Connor Young (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) made five saves in his first collegiate start, and senior Daniel Friend (Deer Park) scored the game's lone goal in the second half to lead the Cortland men's soccer team to a 1-0 win at New Paltz Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action.

Senior Nick Tata (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) picked up an assistant on the Red Dragons' goal as Cortland improved to 6-2 overall and evened its conference record at 1-1.

Goalie John Guzzo registered four saves for the Hawks, who dropped their first game of the year and fell to 4-1-4 overall and 1-1 in the league.

After a scoreless first half, Friend tallied the game winner in the 80th minute when he finished off a cross from the end line by Tata for his second goal of the season.
