Cortland Sweeps Buffalo St., Falls to Oneonta, During Day 2 of SUNYAC Play

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Cortland swept Buffalo State and lost in four sets to Oneonta on Saturday to finish 1-2 during the first weekend of SUNYAC play in Brockport. The Red Dragons (8-7, 1-2 SUNYAC) have six league matches remaining - three in Oswego October 7-8 and three in Cortland October 21-22.

Cortland beat Buffalo State 25-14, 25-7, 25-15. Courtney Silberer (Centereach) finished with 14 kills and a .407 attack percentage and Sarah Piacentini (Webster/Webster Schroeder) had 32 assists and seven digs. Nicole Silberer (Centereach) totaled six kills, while Amanda May (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) and Valerie Fischer (Williston Park/Mineola) added five kills each. Fischer also registered two aces and eight digs, while May had three blocks.

Riley Chapman led the Bengals (5-11, 0-2) with eight kills and Dana Mancuso added seven kills.

Cortland claimed the first set against Oneonta, 25-14, but Oneonta won the last three sets, 25-15, 25-22, 25-20. The Silberer sisters each finished with 11 kills, and May and Fischer each had seven kills. Piacentini dished out 31 assists and picked up 13 digs, and Alexandra Graff (Apex, NC) led the team with 16 digs.

Oneonta (4-11, 2-1) was paced by Paige Carpluk's 15 kills and 14 digs and Kassidy Kievit's 12 kills and five blocks.

Cortland will host Wells College on Wednesday, September 28, at 7 p.m.
