CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland finished in a tie for second place at the 32nd Annual Red Dragon Women's Volleyball Classic with a 3-1 record after falling to Stockton University and defeating Alfred University during Saturday's second day of play.
Stockton, the eight-time defending New Jersey Athletic Conference champion, won the 12-team Classic title with a 4-0 record. The Ospreys earned their first title in six trips to the tournament. Cortland, Alfred, Nazareth and Rochester each finished the weekend 3-1.

Stockton defeated Cortland in four sets, 25-15, 25-21, 24-26, 25-17. Cortland was led by all-tournament selection
Janine Patora (Salt Point/Arlington), who finished with 10 kills along with 15 digs and four blocks.
Nicole Silberer (Centereach) and
Deja Smith (Suffern) added seven kills each, and
Alexandra Graff (Apex, NC) led the team with 26 digs.
Maria Gelyon (West Seneca/Immaculata Academy) distributed 25 assists and
Samantha Czeczotka (Elwood/John H. Glenn) served three aces.
Amanda May (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) led the Red Dragons with five blocks.
Cortland finished the day by holding on for a five-set win over Alfred after claiming the first two sets. The Red Dragons posted wins of 25-22 and 25-15, but the Saxons came back to win the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-12. Cortland, however, earned a 15-8 win in the fifth to take the victory.
Patora once again led the way for Cortland with 13 kills. She also added 13 digs and four blocks.
Courtney Silberer (Centereach) ended with 11 kills and
Valerie Fischer (Williston Park/Mineola) had 10 kills and 11 digs.
Sarah Piacentini (Webster/Webster Schroeder) recorded 45 assists for an average of nine per set and also picked up 12 digs. Czeczotka led the way with four aces and had 14 digs, Graff registered a team-best 18 digs, and May shared the team lead with four blocks.
Cortland will travel to Austin College in Sherman, Texas, for a tournament next Friday and Saturday. The Red Dragons will face Texas-Tyler and Austin on Friday and McMurry University and Rust College (Miss.) on Saturday.
