NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Cortland men's and women's swimming and diving teams dropped dual-meet decisions by nearly identical scores at SUNY New Paltz. The host Hawks defeated the Red Dragons on the men's side, 138-116, and on the women's side, 140-116.
Cortland will compete Saturday at noon at the RPI Kumpf Invitational in Troy.
For Cortland's men,
Noah Farmer (New Hartford) won three events at New Paltz. He captured the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:03.85, besting his opponent by five hundredths of a second. He also won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:18.21 and the 400-yard individual medley in 4:31.21.
Dylan Burns (Cornwall) finished first in the 50-yard freestyle. His time of 22.13 beat New Paltz's top finisher by two hundredths of a second.
Adam Kirchgessner (West Irondequoit) finished second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.02) and
Tim Rokos (Duanesburg) was second in the 400-yard individual medley (4:33.56). Additionally, Cortland had the second-best times in both relays. The 200-yard medley relay of
Nick Galeto (West Islip), Farmer,
Bailey Eigbrett (Avon) and Burns finished in 1:41.08, and
Brian Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point),
Tim Thatcher (Staten Island/St. Peter's Boys),
Zach Healy (Orchard Park) and Burns were clocked in 1:31.77 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Three Cortland women's swimmers won events.
Jasmine Elmassry (Queens/Francis Lewis) won the 500-yard freestyle (5:40.53),
Emily McGurk (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:21.65), and
Natalie Johnson (Canandaigua/Marcus Whitman) captured top honors in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.87).
McGurk also placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.28).
Rachel Noach (White Plains) was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:28.10),
Alana Szewczyk (South Wales/Holland) finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.51), and
Erica Koumas (East Meadow) placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:24.52).
Also earning second-place finishes were
Lauren McBrinn (Suffern/Paramus Catholic (NJ)) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:44.54),
Angelica Ford (Elk Grove Village, IL/Elk Grove) in the 400-yard individual medley (5:00.68), and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Johnson,
Kalee Walden (Dryden), Noach and McGurk (1:46.96).
There were no diving events during either the men's or women's meet.
