SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Cortland women lost 160.5-139.5 and the Red Dragon men fell 168-114 in swimming and diving dual meets at Division II Le Moyne College.
WOMEN:
Cortland's women were led by
Angelica Ford (Elk Grove Village, IL/Elk Grove) and
Emily McGurk (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury), who each won two individual races. Ford captured the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.47) and 200-yard backstroke (2:19.96), and was second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:16.93), and McGurk won the 200-yard butterfly (2:19.96) and 100-yard butterfly (1:03.02).
Kelly Davey (Plattsburgh) won the 50-yard freestyle (26.45) and was second in the 100-yard freestyle (56.43).
Seven Red Dragon women recorded individual second-place finishes. They included:
Natalie Johnson (Canandaigua/Marcus Whitman) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.92);
Alana Szewczyk (South Wales/Holland) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.03);
Erica Koumas (East Meadow) in the 200-yard butterfly (2:25.29);
Becca Kanoza (Syracuse/West Genesee) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:21.68);
Kelly Lambkin (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:39.57); and
Lauren McBrinn (Suffern/Paramus Catholic (NJ)) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:40.48).
Caroline Tighe (East Meadow) earned a combination of first-place and second-place points in diving. Since there was no 3-meter event, the 1-meter competition was broken down and scored as two parts. Tighe finished second in one portion with 189.90 points and first in the other with 160.65 points for a combined score of 350.55 points. Also, the 400-yard medley relay team of Johnson, Szewczyk, McGurk and Ford placed second in 4:16.69.
MEN:
In the men's meet,
Dylan Burns (Cornwall) won the 100-yard backstroke (54.60),
Adam Kirchgessner (West Irondequoit) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.94), and
Lee Wade (Holtsville/Sachem East) earned first-place points in both portions of the 1-meter diving event with scores of 272.95 and 147.75 points for a combined total of 420.70.
Noah Farmer (New Hartford) finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.71) and
Tim Rokos (Duanesburg) placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.24). The Red Dragons also posted the second-fastest times in both relays. Rokos, Farmer, Kirchgessner and Burns were clocked at 3:45.59 in the 400-yard medley relay, while
Brian Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point),
Bailey Eigbrett (Avon),
Zach Healy (Orchard Park) and Burns finished the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:31.95.
Cortland will host Oneonta in dual meets next Saturday, January 28, at 1 p.m.
