Connor Christopherson's SUNYAC record heptathlon score of 5,140 points included 848 points in the 60-meter hurdles
ITHACA, N.Y. –
Connor Christopherson (Morrisonville/Saranac) set a new SUNYAC and school record in the heptathlon as Cortland competed at the Cornell University men's indoor track and field Upstate Challenge. The meet featured primarily Division I schools from New York state.
Christopher finished second overall, and was the top collegiate finisher, with a score of 5,140 points. He broke the previous conference record of 5,057 points set by Brockport's Sam Taft in 2015, and he eclipsed the previous school mark of 5,054 points set by current teammate
Jack Flood last season.
Christopherson, who ranks first nationally in Division III with his performance, scored more than 750 points in four of the seven events. He registered 848 points in the 60-meter hurdles (8.55 seconds, an ECAC qualifier) and 775 points in the 1,000 meters (2:49.07), along with 765 points in the 60-meter dash (7.34) and 758 points in the high jump (1.95 meters/6' 4.75", an ECAC qualifier).
Also in the heptathlon,
Zach Kashmer (Chili/Churchville-Chili) finished fifth with 4,132 points, including 706 in the 60-meter dash (7.52), and
Brent DiVittorio (Brewster) placed sixth with 3,966 points, including 728 points in the 60-meter hurdles (9.08). Kashmer presently ranks ninth and DiVittorio 14th nationally.
Five other Red Dragons posted ECAC qualifying performances.
Dawan Jones (Buffalo/Tapestry Charter) was third in the triple jump (13.85 meters/45' 5.25") and
Nick Vachon (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) finished fourth in the high jump (1.99 meters/6' 6.25").
Charlie Kollmer (Mount Sinai) was fifth in the pole vault (4.50 meters/14' 9"),
Storm Malone (Harrison/Highland) placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.52, 8.50 prelims), and
Dev Williams (Syracuse/Corcoran) was sixth in the long jump (6.83 meters/22' 5").

Enoch Jemmott (Brooklyn/South Shore) - 7th place, 200-meter dash (23.10)
Romain Saint Germain (Westbury) - 8th place, 200-meter dash (23.11)
Zach Meszler (Altamont/Herkimer) - 8th place, 60-meter dash (7.27, 7.11 prelims), and 9th place, 200-meter dash (23.12)
Austen Johnson (Jamestown) - 10th place, 400 meters (52.31)
Cortland returns to action on Saturday, January 28 at a meet hosted by Utica College.
