CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally top-ranked Plattsburgh women's ice hockey team scored seven goals over the final two periods in defeating Cortland, 8-0, Saturday afternoon in ECAC West action at Alumni Arena to sweep the two-game weekend series.
Sophomore Kayla Meneghin (Clifton, NJ/The Gunnery) and freshman Ashley Songin (Springhill/Nichols School) led the Cardinals (18-1, 12-1 ECAC West) with two goals apiece. Meneghin also chipped in with an assist. Sophomore Melissa Sheeran (Schaghticoke/Millbrook School) tallied one goal and two assists, junior Jordan Lipson (Davis, CA/Pomfret Prep) and freshman Hannah Kiraly (Newport Beach, CA/Northern Cyclones) each recorded one goal and one assist and freshman Courtney Moriarty (Estero, FL/Northfield Mount Hermon) netted a goal.
For the Red Dragons (2-16, 1-11), senior goalie
Kelly Farinella (Marlton, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) registered 43 saves. Freshman goalie Kassie Abbott (Reading, MA/Boston Shamrocks U-19) posted her second shutout of the weekend, turning aside 12 shots.
Cortland returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 31, hosting Canton in a non-conference game.
