Eight Individual Event Wins Lead Cortland Women Past Oneonta, 174-122

Natalie Johnson won the 100-yard backstroke and Rachel Noach won the 1,000-yard freestyle
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland won eight individual events and one relay on its way to a 174-122 women's swimming and diving dual-meet victory over visiting Oneonta at Holsten Pool.

Angelica Ford (Elk Grove Village, IL/Elk Grove) earned three victories with top times in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.18), 200-yard backstroke (2:16.68) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:16.45). Caroline Tighe (East Meadow) won both diving events - she scored 224.40 points on the 1-meter board and 229.25 points on the 3-meter board.

Rachel Noach (White Plains) took top honors in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:24.42), while Natalie Johnson (Canandaigua/Marcus Whitman) won the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.72) and finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.78). Emily McGurk (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) won the 100-yard freestyle (56.89) and placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.25).

Cortland won the 200-yard freestyle relay to end the meet as Becca Kanoza (Syracuse/West Genesee), Johnson, Kalee Walden (Dryden) and McGurk finished in 1:44.01.

Cortland swept the top three places in the 100-yard backstroke as Johnson's victory was followed by a second-place time of 1:05.95 from Darby LaFlamme (Niskayuna) and a third-place effort of 1:06.11 by Kanoza. The Red Dragons also earned first, second and third-place points in both diving events. Jacqueline Lang (Middletown/Pine Bush) finished second (191.60 points) and Jackie Bors (Buffalo/North Tonawanda) was third (184.95 points) on the 1-meter board, while Bors placed second (211.80 points) and Lang third (189.70 points) on the 3-meter board.

Also for Cortland, Walden finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (26.36), Kelly Lambkin (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) was the runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:41.34), Jasmine Elmassry (Queens/Francis Lewis) placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:42.79), and Lauren McBrinn (Suffern/Paramus Catholic (NJ)) was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:39.14). The 200-yard medley relay team of Johnson, Alana Szewczyk (South Wales/Holland), McGurk and Kelly Davey (Plattsburgh) finished second in 1:56.05.

Cortland wraps up its dual-meet season next Saturday at home versus Fredonia at 1 p.m.
