Cortland Women Earn Multiple Top-Four Finishes at Utica Pioneer Invite

Tse Senior finished fourth in the triple jump with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 35' 0.5"
UTICA, N.Y. – Midge Moore (Massapequa) and Dana Kupiec (Salem) each won events and Megan Wagner (Niskayuna), Jasmine Meerdink (Rome/Rome Free Academy) and Moore recorded second-place finishes as Cortland competed at the Utica College Women's Indoor Track and Field Pioneer Invitational.

Moore registered two of Cortland's four ECAC-qualifying performances at the meet with her winning time of 8.01 seconds in the 60-meter dash and runner-up time of 26.43 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Kupiec hit an ECAC mark in the 200 with her winning time of 26.35 seconds, while Tse Senior (Islip) reached an ECAC standard with her fourth-place triple jump of 10.68 meters (35' 0.5").

Wagner finished second in the 3,000-meter run in 10:48.36, with teammate Allison Schumann (North Salem) third in 10:53.66. Meerdink placed second in the 5,000-meter run in 19:03.19.

Kelly Gardner (Lake Ronkonkoma/Sachem North) finished third in the 60-meter dash (8.37), fourth in the long jump (5.01 meters/16' 5.25"), and seventh in the 200-meter dash (27.85). Sara Billings (Gansevoort/South Glens Falls) was fourth in the 5,000 meters (19:21.90).

Kaylee Uhl (Waverly) finished third in the 400-meter dash (1:01.75) and Katherine Doherty (Syracuse/Westhill) ended fourth in the pole vault (2.90 meters/9' 6.25"). Harley Buczkowski (Holland Patent) finished fourth in the weight throw (14.28 meters/46' 10.25"), while Gabriella Czerw (Holbrook/Sachem North) tied for fourth in the high jump (1.50 meters/4' 11") and placed sixth in the triple jump (10.21 meters/33' 6").

Two separate Cortland 4x400-meter relays each earned finishes in the top six. Jennifer Jelic (Oneonta), Uhl, Dana Messina (East Meadow) and Kupiec finished third (4:16.91), and Kailey Merrill (Corning/Corning-Painted Post), Melissa Emilio (Oneonta), Jesse Correale (Staten Island/Notre Dame Academy) and Ari Denoon (Brooklyn/Midwood) placed sixth (4:24.55).

Also for the Red Dragons: Messina was fifth in the 200-meter dash (27.56) and sixth in the 400-meter dash (1:02.58); Jackie Guzman (Ronkonkoma/Connetquot) finished fifth in the pole vault (2.75 meters/9' 0.25"); Kirstin Kaessinger (Miller Place) was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (10.11, 10.05 prelims); Emilio finished eighth in the 800 meters (2:28.25); Valerie Moise (Central Islip) was eighth in the 60-meter dash (8.50); and Eliza Nichols (Smithtown/Smithtown West) finished eighth in the 5,000 meters (19:39.65).

Cortland will compete next Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 4-5, at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational and Multi.
