ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Cortland men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their 2017 calendar with dual-meet losses at Hartwick College. The hosts Hawks won the men's meet, 177-96, and the women's meet, 181-111.
Dylan Burns (Cornwall) led Cortland's men with a win in the 50-yard freestyle (22.07) and a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (49.50).
Tim Rokos (Duanesburg) finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.06).
Cortland placed second in both men's relays. The 200-yard medley relay of
Nick Galeto (West Islip),
Noah Farmer (New Hartford), Rokos and
Brian Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) turned in a time of 1:44.34, and the 400-yard freestyle relay of Cremer,
Adam Kirchgessner (West Irondequoit), Burns and
Zach Healy (Orchard Park) finished in 3:30.41.
On the women's side,
Caroline Tighe (East Meadow) won both diving events with scores of 232.40 points on the 1-meter board and 183.35 points on the 3-meter board.
Jacqueline Lang (Middletown/Pine Bush) was second behind Tighe with 177.20 points in the 1-meter competition and 159.05 points in the 3-meter event.
Natalie Johnson (Canandaigua/Marcus Whitman) won the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.14) and was second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.97).
Angelica Ford (Elk Grove Village, IL/Elk Grove) recorded the second-fastest time in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:25.84) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:21.78), and the 400-yard freestyle relay of Johnson,
Kelly Davey (Plattsburgh),
Becca Kanoza (Syracuse/West Genesee) and
Emma Gulbin (Wall Township, NJ/Wall) had the second-best time of 3:55.18.
Cortland will travel to New Paltz for dual meets next Friday, January 13, at 4 p.m.
