ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Four runners placed in the top quarter of a 209-runner field to help the Cortland men's cross country team finish seventh out of 17 teams at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational.
Cortland finished with a team score of 197 points. RIT won the title with 53 points, followed by Geneseo with 72.
Cabel McCandless (Lindenhurst) crossed the finish line in 12th place with a time of 26 mintues, 47.2 seconds over 8,000 meters at Genesee Valley Park. RIT's Otto kingstedt won in 25:38.6.
Grant Boyd (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) placed 26th in 27:11.4 and
Nolan Vest (Coram/Longwood) was 36th in 27:22.3.
Chris Thorpe (Pine Bush) also worked his way into the top 50 with a 49th-place time of 27:45.0.
Cortland's top seven was rounded out by
Ryan Konotopskyj (East Amherst/Williamsville North) in 105th place (28:55.4),
Brian Thurston (Long Beach) in 112th place (29:01.5), and
Matt Monahan (Floral Park) in 135th place (29:46.0).
Cortland will return to action on Friday, Oct. 20 at the Cornell John Reif Memorial Run at 5 p.m.
