#19 Cortland Closes Home Regular-Season Slate with 4-1 Win vs. Brockport

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The nationally 19th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team scored four unanswered goals, including three in the second half, to erase an early 1-0 deficit and defeated The College at Brockport, 4-1, Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action at Jets Field. The Red Dragons improved to 13-2 overall and 7-1 in the conference, while the Golden Eagles fell to 8-4-3 and 3-2-2.

Junior Migell Ormsby (Kingston, Jamaica/DeWitt Clinton) led Cortland with two goals. Senior Ma'Cain Spragling (Akron, OH/Brush) tallied one goal and one assist, and senior Bronson Harris (West Palm Beach, FL/Seminole Ridge) netted a goal. Juniors Jake Keller (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) and Dan Figarella (East Fishkill/John Jay East Fishkill) and sophomore Miguel Tunas (North Salem) recorded assists. Senior goalie Connor Young (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) made one save in raising his record to 13-2 on the season.

Senior Justin Mercer (Brockport) scored Brockport's goal with senior Chris Shepard (Lindenhurst) collecting an assist. Sophomore goalie Joseph Romano (Niskayuna) registered seven saves.

Mercer gave the Golden Eagles the lead in the 15th minute when he collected a long pass from Shepard on the right side, cut into the box and buried a shot inside the left post for his third goal of the season. Harris tied the game in the 40th minute. After a scramble deep in the box, Keller touched a pass to Harris who ripped a shot that deflected off a Brockport defender and inside the left post.

In the second half, Ormsby netted back-to-back goals less than five minutes apart to put Cortland ahead, 3-1. On the first score, Figarella headed a punt at midfield that went right to Spragling who bicycled a long pass toward the top of the box. Ormsby outraced Romano to the ball and sent a shot into the open goal for his eighth goal of the season just 56 seconds into the half. In the 51st minute, Ormsby finished off a give-and-go with Tunas, cleaning up a shot deep in the box for his team-high ninth goal. Spragling finished off the scoring in the 74th minute when he collected a loose ball on the right side, carried around two defenders and deposited a shot inside the left post for his third goal.
